West Burlington families and stakeholders,
I hope most of the snow and cold is behind us as we look forward to Spring. It has been a challenging Winter but we will all survive. Presently, the last day of the 2018-2019 school year is June 5th. My hope is March will be conducive to having school and we wouldn’t add to the total of days to make up. There is some talk in Des Moines about moving the start date of the school year up. I am in a wait and see mode for the preparation of next year’s calendar for that very reason. My intention is to give it a few weeks, and if a bill to move the start date up doesn’t pass the early March “funnel”, I will put a calendar together for our stakeholders and staff to look at and then ask the board for approval. There are no plans for a week-long Spring break for the 2019-2020 school year at this time.
West Burlington Independent School District is implementing a big change this month. Instead of mailing our newsletter we are going strictly digital; at least almost 100 %. West Burlington ISD will provide our stakeholders with the newsletter on our website, Facebook, and via e-mail. If you do not have access to the internet or simply prefer a paper copy, I suggest stopping by any of our school offices and they will be happy to print a copy for you. If you are not on our email list, please let us know and we will certainly get you into our group. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns about going strictly digital in our newsletter delivery.
The West Burlington Independent School District Board of Education will be discussing our one-to-one program and will be making a decision on which devices to move forward with. Our current discussions seem to be heading toward purchasing more Chromebooks. The Technology Committee has met and will do a board presentation in March or early April. If you have a strong opinion on the direction WBISD should take in regard to technology, please contact your student’s building principal or David Roed, our technology director. Yes, he is the guy you hear when you get the weather-related delay/cancellation calls. Registration for next year has begun in earnest. There are a few exciting additions to our course/program offerings; you should check them out.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve your student. We are proud of our school and consider it an honor that you have chosen to send your student(s) to us. Let’s do a community finger cross to keep the inclement weather away so we can have a productive and educational final couple of months of the 2018-2019 school year. My contact information is email@example.com or (319) 752-8747. Kids First!
