The end of the third quarter is racing at us as spring seems to be coming. West Burlington Independent School District hopes your son/daughter is having a great school year. If you have questions or concerns or if your son/daughter isn’t doing as well as he/she should be doing; please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s teacher, principal or superintendent. WBISD prides ourselves in being a school where we walk the talk of — students first!

The recent school shooting in Florida has all of us on edge. West Burlington Independent School District takes your student’s safety very seriously. Perhaps one of the most effective deterrents from a perpetrator is limiting access to the building. Both facilities have a buzz-in system requiring visitors to stand in front of a camera and to be “buzzed” into the locked school door. I am glad to say we have had this in place for six years. We have surveillance throughout our attendance centers and grounds. We have morning supervision and after school supervision both inside the buildings and outside. I believe we do a good job of monitoring our students to see if they are upset or needing support of some kind. We will continue to be vigilant and keep our students and staff safe. We are revisiting our safety measures and will do small adjustments to protocols we believe need improvement. If you have questions or concerns about our security procedures, please contact your son/daughter’s principal or your superintendent. We are here to help. (Click Here to Read More)

It takes an entire community to educate a child. There are so many groups working behind the scenes to provide resources and support of our school, our students, and our school district. The PTO has been particularly active. They do amazing things for our students and teachers at the elementary. I’d like to say a big “THANK you” to this energetic and hard working group. PTO Family Fun Fest will be April 6th. Please come out and support our PTO. We have many booster and support groups in our junior high & high school as well. Our booster clubs provide great support for our athletic teams and fine arts groups. A big “THANK you” to our booster clubs. Our boosters do many things for our athletes/performers that the school district isn’t able to provide.

I have prepared drafts of possible school calendars for next school year. We will continue to have 2:15PM dismissals every Friday for staff development. I am contemplating one major change for
next school year. Currently, I am leaning toward a week long spring break. If you think this is a good idea or a bad idea, please drop me an email or give me a call to provide input. I will post two drafts of a possible calendar within the next two weeks. The board will act on the calendar proposal in April. Thank you for your continued support of our students and school district.

We are good stewards of our district resources and do our best to keep students and staff safe. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at (319) 752-8747, option #3 or Kids First!
