Winter is ComingThe weather presently doesn’t feel like winter, but brace yourself; it is coming. I suggest reviewing your late start and early dismissal plan with your student(s). On the really cold mornings we will not have the students wait outside, rather, invite them inside. Please make sure we have your email or cell number so we can communicate to you the early dismissal or late start information. We do our best to make a decision before 6AM so families have time to make adjustments. We put the word out on our website, social media, local radio and Quad Cities TV stations in addition to emails and text messages. If you don’t hear that there is a postponement; that means West Burlington Schools is in session. Since we do not have regular education bus routes, we are more apt to have school versus other school districts with many bus routes, especially routes on gravel roads. We would never unnecessarily endanger students or staff.

Winter break is fast approaching with the last day of school before the holiday being December 22nd with a 2:15PM dismissal. Please make every effort to have your students attending school up to the 22nd. We resume school on January 4th, so the school calendar provides a nice break for your students.

Communication is a two way street. West Burlington Independent School District makes every effort to communicate how your student(s) is/are doing. This means sharing a concern or simply letting you know your child is doing well. If you have a question or concern about your child’s educational progress, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher. If the question isn’t answered or the concern isn’t resolved, then the principal is the next person to communicate with. We suggest addressing concerns early on, so they don’t grow into full-fledged problems. Our staff is here to help and welcome open conversations with parents about the progress students are making. On behalf of the West Burlington Independent School District, school board, certified staff, support staff, administration, and superintendent we wish you a happy and joyous holiday season. We appreciate the opportunity to work with your child in helping them grow academically as well as becoming great citizens. We have great kids at good ole’ WB, and it’s because of our great parents and guardians! Happy holidays!
