Fellow Falcons, as I write this April newsletter, I cannot help but wonder where the school year has gone. We’ve enjoyed the fall weather, braved the winter cold, and we are progressing into the spring weather roller coaster ride. Iowa Assessments have been administered, prom planning is near completion and believe it or not, graduation is becoming a topic of discussion. Time flies when you work with young people. It has been a great school year and I look forward to the fourth quarter being as enjoyable as the previous three quarters.

The start date for the 2015-2016 school has not been set by the legislature. All indications point to an August 23rd starting date. This compromise start date will not allow us to complete the first semester at the holiday. I do not, however, view this has having a huge negative impact upon our academic program. I am developing a 2015-2016 calendar with an August 23rd start date. We will seek board approval as soon as Governor Branstad signs the bill into law. West Burlington Independent School District is ready for 5-year Department of Education site visit. The site team will be in West Burlington April 7th, 8th, and 9th. The purpose of the visit is to identify our strength areas and render a few suggestions on what we can do better. The biggest benefit of the site visit is the self-examination that inherently occurs as we prepare. When the official report is received, WBISD will share the data with our public.
